Breakfast at Mrs S (Maylands)

Took a train ride down to Maylands on a weekend morning. Finally had a chance to try Mrs S – a breakfast place that is well known in the cool vintage strip on Whatley Crescent.

There was a waiting list and we had to put down our names. While we were waiting we walked around to explore the other cool vintage looking shops along Whatley Cres i.e. Sherbet Cafe, Chapels on Whatley, Smoult Deli + Coffee, Wanderlust store. After 20 minutes we had a spot outside the cafe and placed our orders. The staffs were very helpful and asked us if it was our first time and mentioned that we have to place our orders at the counter when we are ready. Hubby ordered the scrambled eggs on thick toast with extra serving of bacon while I went for the Granny June Toasted Cornbread with Poached Eggs drizzled with Maple syrup.

I ordered my usual Flat white. Coffee was great, except serving size was a tad smaller than the usual regular sized FW. Hubby went for his OJ, fresh and slightly sourish, which was prefer to help with digesting the huge serving of breakkie.

Overall hubby’s Scrambled Eggs won my liking, as it was lusciously creamy and soft. And it was a really huge serving given that both of us couldn’t even finish it. The cornbread wasn’t my fav – it was too crumbly and it tasted more of a cake texture. I would really love if it was more of a corn fritters.
